5.56×45 Shooting Results With PMC, Herters, American Eagle, Black Hills

So I’m still working on the AR-15. The first time I shot it I tried a bunch of different ammo but lost the results. That’s OK because it was a new gun and I don’t thing the barrel was really ready for ammo comparison. I did learn some things though. I had an H3 buffer from the AR-10. Everything would work fine, but the Herters steel cased ammo wouldn’t push the bolt carrier group (BCG) back far enough to catch the bolt catch when the magazine was empty. I bought a standard carbine buffer and the problem went away. Also, the premium Black Hills match ammo with 75 GR bullets targeted for this barrel shot terribly, worse than the el’cheapo 55 GR stuff. As you can see from the pictures here, that problem is going away. The second time was with my family and you’re more interested in making sure people have a good time. Yesterday, I tried again, but only at 25 yards which I think was a mistake. I’ll have to try this again at 50/100 soon. All targets were shot with the BCM, 1×7 twist, chrome lined, 14.5 inch barrel and an EOTech 512 sight with the rifle on sand bags.  The Black Hills stands out now. I’ve always liked the PMC but its results here are mediocre. The Herters 62 GR HP did amazingly well. Here are the results:
